Ps Josh - The Truth is out there | GLM
main scripture: romans 1:16-32
points:
when the truth is suppressed, we trade glory for darkness
god’s judgment can look like getting exactly what we want - without him
when the heart turns from god, the fruit becomes its god
reflection:
Are you suppressing God’s truth?
encouragement:
The truth is that God is real as evidenced by creation. Celebrating sin is a symptom of our hearts not having the vitality of Christ living within. Live a life that shows Christ to others. Ask Holy Spirit to show you areas of your life you might be suppressing the truth of Christ in your life.

Ps Josh - Answer the Call | GLM
main scripture: ROmans 1:1-7
points:
the gospel of jesus was always the plan
jesus came in human weakness but rose in divine power
jesus calls us, not just to believe in him, but belong to him and live set apart for him
reflection:
Is Jesus the centre of my life or is He just a part of it?
Does my human weakness reveal his resurrection power?
Am I answering His call or foolishly ignoring it?
encouragement:
God has called each one of us for a specific purpose. Take heart and step out in faith for we don’t go out to fulfil that purpose through our flesh, rather He equips us, guides us and strengthens us to see it through.

She Had Humor
Quote 1:
“You know, funny how the little things pop up in the memory. His way of going about things, his self-control…the way he put both hands on the wheel and squared his shoulders when we began, the strength and keenness of his profile when the streetlight fell thru the snow sifting on the windshield and lit up his face. I wasn’t watching him directly, but one sees a lot out of the corner of one’s eye. Oh, I shouldn’t be writing all this. You’ll think me a romantic nitwit.” ~Entry from Ruth’s College Journal
Ruth's Tinder Profile:
Moabitess (Race a product of incest)
Genesis 19:30-38 = Lot (Abraham's nephew) had sexual relations with his 2 daughters who got him drunk on wine 2 nights in a row.
Grew up in a culture of paganism and idolatry
Sexually perverted people, worshiping the false god Chemosh (Destroyer, subduer, fish god)
Chemosh was worshiped through child sacrifices
Widow (Not a Virgin)
Homeless with no job, food, or money
New to Town with no friends...just a bitter old mother-in-law mad at God
New Believer (Not a long walk with God)
Hard Times:
1200-1020 B.C.

Famine (Typical of God's Judgement)

Ps Josh N - The Filling, the Fire and the Fruit | GLM
points:
we must be filled, before our mission can be fulfilled.
desire his all-consuming fire
build a temple for god, not a tarp for the world.
your fruit is the evidence of his spirit
reflection:
Are you filled with the Holy Spirit?
What type of fire are you?
Is the fruit of the Spirit evident in your life?
encouragement:
Sit with Holy Spirit and ask Him to reveal to you and fill you fresh. It is by His leading that the fire in our hearts can be kindled and burn brightly, therefore bearing the Fruit of the Spirit.

Ps Eric - From Sweet to Bitter | GLE
Bible Verses:
Ruth 1:12-13 (NKJV)
Quote 1:
Robert Hubbard Jr. suggests: "Bitter complaint cloaked firm faith." (The Book of Ruth, page 116)
Bible Verses:
Ruth 1:14-15 (NKJV)
Quote 2:
Iain Duguid: "There was nothing kosher about Ruth. She knew she would be about as welcome in Bethlehem as a ham sandwich at a bar mitzvah. " (Esther & Ruth, page 142)
Bible Verses:
Ruth 1:16-17 (NKJV)
Quote 3:
"Ruth is brought into the Land of Promise by a broken Naomi. When was Ruth brought into the place of blessing? It wasn't when she was impressed with Naomi's pleasantness and perfectness. It was when she saw Naomi's brokenness and bitterness. Precious people, I am convinced that very often our friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors are not getting saved and not responding to the gospel because they look at us and see the life we are presenting to them as being totally together and they say, 'God is the God of the together person, the perfect person-which is fine for you because you're together and you're perfect. But I'm not. Therefore He could not be my God.' Marrying into Naomi's happy Hebrew family did not convert Ruth. You see, it was not until Naomi-Miss Pleasant-became humble and confessed freely that the Lord had dealt bitterly with her that Ruth said, 'Your God shall be my God because I can relate to a God like that." - Jon Courson
Quote 4:
Barbara Bush and Ruth Graham shared an extensive correspondence over the years and a great deal more: both were strong-willed and outspoken women who married young and found themselves responsible for large families while their husbands moved in ever-widening circles around the world. Both women also looked out for their sometimes too-trusting spouses. And each could unholster a wicked sense of humor when she needed it. In 2006 Barbara noted that Ruth had once been asked whether, as a Christian, she had ever contemplated divorce. Barbara explained, "Her answer was, 'Divorce? No. Murder? Yes.'" Added Barbara, "I could understand that."

Ps Eric - Reach for the Sky | GLE
introduction to the book of ruth
Bible Verses:
Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)
Hebrews 11:3 (NKJV)
Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)
2 Corinthians 4:18 (NKJV)
Judges 17:6 (NKJV)
Judges 21:25 (NKJV)
Proverbs 14:12 (NKJV)
Noteworthy:
Ruth is one of only 2 books of the Bible that were named after women (Esther being the other)
It is the only genealogy we have that connects King David to the tribe of Judah
Significant because the Messiah was to come from the tribe of Judah, and the genealogy of Jesus traces back to King David
God was at work preparing a line through which the Messiah would come
Book of Ruth is considered Historical
Big Idea = Redemption
A Beautiful Love Story between two unlikely people. It has even been called an ancient "Biblical Cinderella Story." Viewed as a rags-to-riches fairy tale.

A place of commitment
A call back to the altar
reflection: What part of your life are you still hanging on to that God has told you to surrender?
