Ps Eric - A Wedding and a Baby #blessed | GLE
Obstacle:
Allows the man to settle in his heart how truly devoted he is to that woman. How much is he willing to sacrifice?
Reveals depth of commitment to that woman.
Bible Verses:
Ruth 4:1-4 (NKJV)
Quote 1:
"A kind of outdoor court, the place where judicial matters were resolved by the elders and those who had earned the confidence and respect of the people...a place for business and as a kind of forum or public meeting place." - Huey
Notes (David Guzik):
When Israel came into the Promised Land during the days of Joshua, the land was divided among the tribes and then among the family groups. God intended that the land stay within those tribes and family groups,so the land could never permanently be sold. Every 50 years, it had to be returned to the original family group (Lev, 25:8-17)
But 50 years is a long time. So God made provision for that land that was "sold," that it might be redeemed back to the family by the kinsman-redeemer.
Again, had the responsibility to protect the persons, property, and posterity of the larger family-and all of these duties went together.
Bible Verses:
Ruth 4:5-8 (NKJV)
James 4:17 (NKJV)
Ruth 4:9-12 (NKJV)
Ruth 1:19-21 (NKJV)
Afflicted (Verse 21):
Breaking to pieces, good for nothing, harm, hurt, punish
Quote 2:
"A woman in our fellowship came up to me one day, after having been AWOL from church for some time. She had been on the hunt for a husband, going to classes, retreats, singles fellowships, and so on, and nothing happened for her. Now she was mad at God for all the effort she put into looking, and for all the time and money she spent on preparing herself for marriage. In the middle of her tirade about how God had let her down, all I could think was, 'I pity the poor fellow she does manage to get her claws into!' First things first, neither Ruth or Boaz was on the hunt for a mate. They waited on God to prepare their individual hearts and build godly character within them. They did their part by allowing God to work within them, and then God did His part through His providence to bring the two of them together. They were naturally brought together by circumstances in a supernatural way. There is no concrete formula for this kind of thing. God's ways are not our ways, and His ways are beyond finding out." - Pastor Bill Stonebraker

Quote 3:
"God's hand is all over history. God works out His purpose, generation after generation. Limited as we are to one lifetime, each of us sees so little of what happens. A genealogy is a striking way of bringing before us the continuity of God's purpose through the ages. The process of history is not haphazard. There is a purpose in it all. And the purpose is the purpose of God." - Kidner
Quote 4:
"Some people downplay this idea of a woman's self-image being nurtured and supported, but I have seen women who lived with men who were brutes. Women who are married to such men reflect on their faces how they are treated. A once young, vibrant, and beautiful woman now looks haggard and older than her years. Before she got married she was radiant and glowing, but after ten years of marriage she is worn down and drawn out, with no incentive to make herself attractive." - Pastor Bill Stonebraker
